Another destination

With the gorgeous weather and clean laundry, what’s a girl to do? Move on! And that we did! We have over 700 islands to explore and so little time. With the Covid debacle and weather hold ups, we only signed up for three months here in the Bahamas so our cruising permit will expire mid April and we will return to the states then. So again…..onward we go. We have had intermittent showers that have given way to a gorgeous rainbow. The showers last maybe ten minutes and barely enough to rinse any salt off the boat but with the passing of a dear friends family member how appropriate the symbol of the rainbow. Rest In Peace UO.

We are leaving Black Point and heading toward Rudder Cay Cut along the inside route. So for those that have not been the inside route is the equivalent of the ICW in the states and the outside of course being the ocean. You have “cuts” here whereas in the states we call them “inlets”. The biggest difference in the “cuts” and the “inlets” is the lack of markers here in the Bahamas. There are no red or green buoys to show you the “channel” or the deepest part of the water so you have to trust the charts and any local knowledge you can get. So again with this passage we will stay on the “inside” and follow the magenta line on the charts through some pretty tight areas. Tight for me means depths charted close to our required six foot draft.

So this map shows depths in meters and 1 meter is equal to 3.28 feet. So for us anything 2 meters or higher is great. Anything below 2 and we are praying that we are at high tide as our draft is about 6 feet. Like a champ the captain maneuvered the skinny water and we were never kicking up any sand so we are getting more comfortable with our draft and ability to go where we like to go in the Bahamas.

The water is just amazing and the shore lines are usually untouched beaches. It is seldom that you see a home one the waterfront especially on these smaller cays. The area we are anchoring in is close to Musha and Rudder Cut Cays which I believe are both owned by David Copperfield. Most beaches have “private property” signage on them with just one beach available to really allow the boys to stretch their legs. We are grateful that they allow you the opportunity to put you feet in the sand and enjoy some swimming with the “boys”. They have been a delight to watch as they try to figure out how we will “rock their world” next. They seem to be adjusting which is great!

We will call it a night and say good night moon!

The whole family thanks you for the mention of UO and the reminder of a rainbow’s promise. Continued safe, and at the same time “world-rocking,” travels.
