Saint Augustine Walk

After spending the better part of the morning waiting and checking in with the mooring field office to see if we could stay one more night, we decided to jump ship and take a quick walk with the boys.

Saint Augustine holds a piece to the puzzle or more accurately is the beginning of the story of how Paradigm Shift came to be ours.  When we were coming home last year on Ti Amo from the Gulf Coast of Florida, Saint Augustine would be a stop for us.  Greg loves walking the docks and seeing who may be there that we know but on this day he would find a Selene ‘53 that he thought had a for sale sign on it.  It turned out not to be for sale but the owners of Holokai, Bill and Shelly were happy to entertain us and allow us to look at their boat.  It turned our that they had owned a 47 foot Caliber prior to owning their Selene.  We told them we thought we were ready to take that step but were having difficulty finding anything.  Well as luck would have it, they had a friend in Kemah Texas getting ready to put his on the market.  And so the journey began.  So….Saint Augustine will always be thought of as the place in which it all began.

The walk into town was as festive as the lights at night.  Every store front is decorated, every lamppost and even the walls along the walkway.

With that, Jaxon is exhausted and Cooper is still pulling us along.  We head back to the boat as 11:00 is check out and we still need to bring the dingy up if we don’t have a mooring for another night.  With no call from the marina, we assume we must be off and start preparations for departure to Fort Pierce.

Of course as soon as we have the dinghy loaded and secured and we have dropped the line from the mooring ball, Greg called the marina on the radio to let them know we had vacated.  And wouldn’t you know it……they came back to say if you would like to stay another night that ball is available.  Why they did not call before 11:00 or let us know earlier when we checked is beyond us.  We thank them and let them know we are headed further south and we will catch them next year.

Onward to Fort Pierce.
