With a desire to go offshore from Charleston for a day or two, we have elected to slow our pace to get into the Charleston Harbor. So today we decided to leave Bucksport and head to Georgetown South Carolina. This part of the Waccamaw River is wide and carries depths over 20 feet. It is an easy ride and the stress of folks passing you is a non issue as there is plenty of room.
We head into Georgetown about noon and decided to tie up at a marina so we could easily get into town. Most marinas are full with folks leaving their boats for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and heading back home. There is one marina with a face dock that looked to have a spot and as luck would have it, it is ours till we want to leave.
What a cute little town. It reminds us of Saint Michaels a bit as we walk down the main waterfront street, but there are tons of things closed as it is Sunday. Looks like we may need another day here to explore the shops. They have a nice long boardwalk with plenty of outdoor dining. We grabbed a spot and enjoyed a nice beverage and snack as we contemplated our next move.
Folks have asked how we are doing and if we are enjoying the boat. The answer is on our faces. We are doing great and really enjoying this different ride. It is a beast of a boat with 92000 pounds (plus all the food and wine stowed) to maneuver but we are learning as we go and doing a great!
There are so many historical homes and relics about town. I don’t know that we will have time to properly investigate this entire place, but it is a great spot and worth coming back for another visit. If you have to be on the ICW, enjoy the small towns, right?
As we pass this guy on our way back to the boat, the boys (Jaxon and Cooper) don’t know what to think of this guy. There were actually two of them that were just walking about in folks yards and even crossing the street. Isn’t there a joke about the chicken crossing the road?
And we will call it a day and see what the next one brings!
