With the boys tied up doing boat projects, we girls elect to take to the hills! There are a few trails up the mountain sides, some that just go to the highest points of the mass and others that cross over to the ocean side. Today Robin and I would attempt a trail neither of us have explored before and look for those elusive markings to tell us we are heading the right way.
Items hanging in the trees give you the rubber stamp of approval that you are headed the correct direction. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if a clearing on the ground is an actual ”clearing” or a path so these shoes and floats are very helpful. Cruisers every year come through with machetes and chop down any over growth to help keep these paths clear. Several landings along the way provide a picturesque view of the anchorage where Paradigm Shift and Crossroads are sitting as well as the boats sailing on the ocean.
And then we make it to the top! We see that beautiful beach. And it is ours for the moment. That is one thing about the beaches on the ocean side here in the Bahamas……you can claim your own for a day and just enjoy but it is a hike to get to them.
Watching the waves and walking in the surf are good for the soul. The entire stress of the day melts away as the sound of the waves pooling in around the rock laden shore take you away. We walked from one end of the beach to the other in search of treasures but mainly we are just relocating sand from one spot to another. Just getting a walk for the body and soul.
The day would not end there. We hustled back to the boats for a later than normal lunch and made plans with the boys to try and find a snorkeling spot or two. Our first attempt turned into a thirty minute dinghy ride about Normans Pond but then as we came back toward the anchorage we found a spot with some coral and fish. Thanks to Robin for sharing her great underwater shots.
Just another day in paradise!
