An Overnighter

With Cooper in his bed looking like he is up to something he should not be, we hit the ocean taking the opportunity to hop from South Carolina to the Georgia/Florida line. We would take a twenty four hour window and enter the St. Mary’s Inlet and drop anchor in the St. Mary’s River.

I wish at this writing I could tell you all of our generator woes have been settled, but the mechanic was able to give us a work around to get us up and running until we could get to an actual Westerbeke dealer. Greg immediately got us an appointment in Tavernier where we will be shortly after Christmas.

This has been one of our most challenging seasons as we were the last minute getting projects completed before heading out. Therein lies the lesson of the day. We should have taken a week after all improvements had been made and tested all systems while still close to home. It is referred to as a “shake down” cruise. Instead, we have been dealing with the issues as we go and praying we could fix or be close to repair yards if needed. One thing is for certain, Paradigm Shift has a captain that is pretty hands on when it comes to engines and any repair work, so if it can be done, he is more than willing to give it a try.

St. Mary’s River has a strong current and anchoring was a bit of a chore especially when you are use to anchoring of the Rappahannock River. We put our nose in the wind and fought the current the entire time but with a little patience we got the hook to grab and we settled in for a beautiful sunset.
