Georgetown, SC…..My Kind Of Town

Friendly! Without a doubt one of the nicest towns with just a host of folks eager to help you! Greg and I secured Paradigm Shift and immediately headed to Buzz’s Roost where we would watch the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Tennessee Titans. If there is anything one knows about Greg, it is his love for his Philadelphia sports teams. There was a host of chatter at the bar but we had great seats with a clear view to the game. A couple of fishing captains would be chatting next to us and one in particular continued to look at us as if we were locals and part of his conversation. After a couple of hours with him, you felt “local”. John Benton would turn out to be our source for getting our generator repaired. John is the local “tour” captain. He runs about six different tours both on the water and on land. When we got to chatting with him he invited us to meet him at “Big Tuna”, a locals hangout/bar where we may meet the generator repairman. We finished watching the game and went as instructed and found John having a cocktail. Our repairman was not there but we got his name and number and he agreed to come assess the situation. John would go on to offer Greg a ride the next day through town to help track down fuses and other items we would need. I took the day to get a haircut and do some grocery shopping.

The next morning when the mechanic arrived, the sweetest sound was coming from the engine room, and it was the hum of the generator. It seems some part of the fuel assembly needed replacing and that would have to be ordered. For us…..even though we would have to sit another day or two, it was just a huge relief to know we would soon be on our way further south and that anchoring out was yet again an option without any issues. You could see the stress leave our faces.

We would take a few walks around town to see the beautiful homes all manicured and decorated for Christmas and the nightly stroll to see the town lit up. We have been very fortunate to have met John Benton and the staff here at Harborwalk Marina. It has been a great stop and yes while here I went to the Independent Seafood Company and purchased some of that delicious fresh shrimp. Nothing like it!
