“Life is good”, until it isn’t.
We had a beautiful sunrise and were anxious to start our trek to Oriental, North Carolina where we had secured a slip for a night. Our first destination this trip is to St. Augustine where we will meet our kids for a couple of days prior to Christmas. We have some time to be lazy and enjoy some of the towns along the way to St. Augustine so we have elected to stay in Oriental a night or two.
The boys settled in for another day on the ICW and within a couple of hours their world was rocked by the Pamlico Sound where the winds were picking up and the waves were angry. Jaxon was pacing the floors while Cooper was jumping in our laps looking for comfort. To be honest we would all like to be more comfortable, but this boat handles this type weather quite well. We headed up the Neusse River to Oriental Marina and Inn where the “gale force” winds would drop to literally nothing and the captain could back this vessel into her slip for a day or two of rest. The call for “gale force” winds was out on the Atlantic with warnings for small crafts on the Pamlico Sound.
Once tied up, the boys began to relax and feel a little more at ease. The wind must have followed us into the channel because it starting blowing pretty good after we were secure and it would continue until after dinner. I took a small walk around the harbor and did a little window shopping in hopes of a second day here to really explore. Of course the captain will retain my credit cards while I “browze”. LOL
The harbor is full of shrimp and fishing boats. I love this little area. It is quite quaint and the folks are like a breath of fresh air….very refreshing!
