“Exceptionally great, as in quantity, quality, extent, or degree; a monumental work. of historical or enduring significance; a monumental victory.”
Of all the years we have been in George Town, one thing I have never done is climbed to the top of Monument Beach. There is a stone beacon monument at the top of the many trails that you can take to get to this gem. Robin and I headed out in ”The Shift” and safely anchored her in the shallows as the tide was going out. We were sure to allow of the outgoing tide as one thing we did not want to find upon returning to would be a grounded dinghy. One thing about our new dinghy is that it weighs more than Robin and I combined and it is not going to move easily.
With that we set off for our hike……note the map that contains all the different ways to get to the top…….and the long span of ocean of the other side of the sound. Robin and I decided we were up for a day on the beach and then the ”intrepid” path which would put our legs, arms, core and brains to work.
Once we had determined our route, we enjoyed laughing and chatting about our trips and the days to come. We knew our time was limited so we were going to make the best of it. Robin was the only one that thought to bring a bottle of water for us each and a camera so we could document our successes or set backs. I have to say the birds chirping were my favorite…..the slithering thing that crossed my path was my least favorite…..I guess that leaves the lizard somewhere in between.
Once at the top after a few slips but mainly long strides of success, there were other folks who had taken less treacherous paths to reach the monument. They were happy to snap a photo for us before we began our descent…..”an action of moving downward, dropping or falling”?????? YIKES.
A walk in the park! We got it done! What a great trip and a great reminder for myself that we need to stay agile and stretch each day in preparation for those things we have yet to discover. Thanks Robin for this “Monument-al” day!
