In no particular order, we have had some great weather while here at Rudder Cut Cay. We have been able to get out our Christmas toys and deploy both a hammock (thanks to Jen and Janek) and a paddle board (thanks to Santa). It was so relaxing to lay back in the hammock and declare it “make your own lunch day”…..but some folks were not buying that as an excuse. It is really nice though to gently sway in the hammock and listen to the water lapping on the sides of the boat hull. This could be addicting and my new hide out. The paddle board was next and took some muscle to hoist it out of the closet downstairs and then more muscle to blow the thing up. While we have the electric pump, someone thought we should use the hand pump, so we did. And we got it inflated to 13 or 14psi and she was ready to head into the water. Playing on it would have to wait as we were off to explore the beaches between the Darby Islands. The boys wanted to stretch their legs and swim a bit….so that we did. This was “The Good”.
When we returned to the boat it was about 4:30 and we had invited Ryan and Rene over for “appys” so we would prepare for their arrival. We had picked up a couple of things for them along the way and one was a gallon of Vodka. I had set it down on the pilot house settee flooring along with a few other things. I went about getting things ready and realized that behind the settee in the pilot house was Gregs beer and he had wanted to put some in the fridge. Rather than let him handle it, somehow I refused to do it his way and the cushion to the settee knock the gallon of vodka to the floor by way of my foot. Yes alcohol was involved in the accident but I was not drinking it. It fell right on my toes I had surgery on (twice) and it turned black and blue so fast I was feeling a bit queasy. Well my “appy” was now almonds and pretzels because that was all Greg could handle. I was in no shape to help as I was ….Icing….Elevating….Resting…..per my sisters instructions. This is truly “The Ugly”.
Lastly we have “The Bad”. We picked up anchor about lunchtime and headed to White Point off Great Guana Cay for a night. With winds predicted out of the west, they were to be light however that was not so much the case. To these new trawler folks who have been enjoying calm anchorages, it was a nightmare of a night. The fetch from the sea was not in sync with the wind, they were not playing nice. We woke to a higher wind than anticipated and rocking to and fro…port to starboard. Drawers were opening, doors were closing, freezer drawers opening and closing with each pitch and then…….the upper cabinet opened and dishes came flying out. Okay….I should not have stoneware possibly but the real problem was that these “newbies” have been so relaxed with our locking cabinet doors and freezer and refrigerator doors that we learned our lesson the hard way. We lost three cereal bowls but only one of us eats cereal so we are still in good shape.
Now we have moved to Pirate Beach near Big Majors and Staniel Cay. Hoping that this fetch dies down a little today as we have been up since 3:00 this morning. More good news is the dinghy has done great with our bridle and has been riding well behind the boat. Good thing….I don’t know how we would have gotten it on the crane with the pitching we were doing.
