Being on South Bimini, we cannot get to the North Island without the use of the ferry or on a calmer sea state you could take your own dinghy. We elected in the 20 knot winds to take the $3 (one way) ferry. It was a small walk to the ferry dock. We passed a few establishments such as The Thirsty Turtle, Forties and the local grocer. It is still such a tragedy that they have issues with getting rid of “junk” and/or trash. The side of the road found itself home to old broken down washing machines, broken down bikes and of course beaten up cars. When we got to the dock it had already left with some folks so we would sit and wait for the next ride which would be in about fifteen minute……we were happy with the view.
Once across the sound we make our way to our first stop after running into our marina mates, Donna and Scott on Voyager. They pointed us in the direction of the Covid testing site. Within a few moments we were swabbed and then waiting on results. The young lady that runs the clinic flys in for two weeks at a time from Nassau, her alternate staff comes in behind her for their two weeks. Very pleasant considering it could be an unpleasant event.
We walked down next to find the local Aliv Store actually known as the Computer Center where we would pick up our SIM card for our MIFI. Along the way we had to chuckle at the blue cooler floating out to sea. And then there it was……Glenda’s Paradise. A little shop I ran across my first year here in 2015 was still in business. This was Martin Luther King Day and most stores and bars were closed but the Computer Center and the liquor store were open and that was all we really had left to do for the day. The Computer Center was a good mile to mile and a half walk so we got a chance to stretch our legs.
Once we had our SIM card in hand we made our way back to the ferry dock. The liquor store is right across from the dock so it would be our last stop. We don’t typically drink too much in the way of liquors but Rum is pretty cheap here and the once in a blue moon Bahama Mama or rum daiquiri while in the tropics completes the picture. Along the way we pass the Anglican Church, The Roberts House of Love and my personal favorite, Frozen Delights and Wellness Centre. So the frozen delights are actually frozen yogurt so that for sure is the “healthier” option…….just hold the sprinkles.
After a good five mile walk and all our errands completed, we are back at the ferry dock and then on our way back to the marina. Nice day…..with lots of items checked off the list.
